Daily idioms by mail — Expressions anglaises par mail quotidien

As you probably know, I’m not English. Nobody is perfect… Anyway, I try to do my best to improve.
The one thing that I want to do now is learn English idioms (like “The Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back” or even Shave and a Haircut ;) ). So I made a script that added to cron send me a mail with one idiom from goenglish.com.

Comme vous le savez sûrement, je ne suis pas anglais. En vue de m’améliorer, je m’intéresse en ce moment aux expressions idiomatiques (The Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back pour la goutte d’eau qui fait déborder le vase, par exemple). Je me suis fait un petit script qui ajouté à cron m’envoie un mail avec une expressions de goenglish.com.

Rename subtitles in bash for mplayer — Renommer des sous-titres pour mplayer

With mplayer, if you have a subtitle file matching the name of the movie file you want to play, mplayer automatically loads it, otherwise, you have to use the -sub option.
Problem is loading some files with -sub can be boring (especially if you want to load several files at once). Here is how to rename easily the subtitles to match the name of the movie file.

Avec mplayer, si vous avez un fichier de sous-titres qui correspond au nom du fichier de votre film, mplayer le charge automatiquement, sinon, il faut utiliser l’option -sub.
Le problème est que charger des fichiers avec -sub peut être chiant (surtout si on charge plusieurs fichiers d’un coup). Voilà comment renommer facilement les sous-titres pour qu’ils correspondent au nom du fichier du film.

Beamer : section title — titre des sections

I wanted to change the way beamer set the titles of the section.
For example, I wanted each section to be “Exercise 1: blabla”, “Exercise 2: another” and I wanted to be able to refer to the number of the section, that is, not to redefine the number of the section by something like “Exercise \number”.

Je voulais changer la façon dont beamer gère les titres de section.
Par exemple, je voulais que chaque section soit « Exercice 1 : blabla », « Exercice 2: autreexo » et que je puisse appeler une référence au numéro de la section, donc pas seulement changer le numéro de la section en « Exercice\numéro ».

\partpage problem in Beamer with french/babel — problème de \partpage en Beamer avec french/babel

I am using beamer to make some slides. The result is always great (LaTeX…), but when using \partpage with \usepackage[french]{babel} you get instead of Part I, Part II, … First part I, Second part II, … (In French: “Première partie I” , …) which is not so great…

J’utilise Beamer pour faire des slides. Le résultat est toujours nickel (LaTeX), mais quand on utilise \partpage avec \usepackage[french]{babel}, on obtient « Première partie I », «Seconde partie II », … (en anglais c’est juste « Part I », …)

find,xargs,tar : Compress files from a list — Compresser des fichiers à partir d’une liste

You want to compress some files, say all the script bash you’ve got in your home directory. You probably know of to do this in several lines or with a for loop. Combining find and xargs give you THE command line.

Vous voulez compresser plusieurs fichiers, par exemple tous vos scripts bash. Vous savez surement comment faire ça en plusieurs lignes ou avec une boucle for. En combinant find et xargs, vous obtenez LA ligne de commande.

Beamer & 2 logos

Months ago, I was trying to put 2 logos on each side of the frame with beamer, but I wasn’t lucky with my keywords on google…
